Last years Poetry s.a

At black water pond by Mary Oliver is a very well written poem. In this essay I will tell you about the language that is used in this essay. I will also show how imagery is used in this poem. I will show how a poem has a tone and what the tone of at black water pond is. Last but not least I will show and tell you about imagery and why it is so important to have high level of imagery in a poem and I will show you examples of imagery that I discovered and studied in the poem black water pond.

The language of this poem is very figurative. Line 6 of this poem shows figurative language like stones leaves fire it feels cold. I think it’s figurative because it does not say I dipped my hands in cold water .It says it in a very figurative and detailed way. It is also in first tense and it shows on line 3 I dipped my cupped hands. I drink. That proves it is really in first tense.

The tone of the poem is very deep and dark. The author of the poem did this by putting the poem in first tense and he used good description words and used similes .On line 5 it shows the use of similes the author used. ‘It tastes like stones, leaves, fire. That shows the use of similes’ as the author is using an adjective to describe something the thing he is describing is not.

Last but not least this poem has imagery .It shows a clear image in the readers head. This is important in a poem because if you don’t have imagery and a clear image in the readers head the poem is really boring .Luckily this poem is very interesting because it has a lot of imagery .And that is good because that means I have a lot to write about. On line 6 it falls cold waking the bones .I hear them. That line of the poem ‘’at black water pond’’ shows very very good sauce of imagery and that line proves that there is imagery used in the poem.

In conclusion Black water pond by Mary Oliver is a very well written poem. It is a very short poem yet it is very good with loads of good use of vocabulary. The vocabulary used in this poem was very challenging. It uses a good variety of words. It has good use of figurative language and similes’. It has a dark and mysterious tone to the poem and I talked about why it is important to have good use of imagery and that it is important to show a clear image of what’s going on in the readers head. Over this entire poem is a very well written poem. I backed up all the things I wrote down on quotes and verses from the very exclusive poem Black water pond by Mary Oliver.
